Iconic Music Videos

Bob Dylan- Subterranean Homesick Blues (1965)

- acknowledged as one of the first "music videos"

- incorporates Andrew Goodwin's relationship between lyrics and visuals (amplifying)

- although there is no performance or narrative in the video itself it was a turning point in introducing a combination of visuals with music

Stormzy- know me from

Know me from

- single shot video (with one cut)

- perhaps a more modern version of subterranean homesick blues with some elements of lyrics reflected in the visuals

- simple low budget video portrays him "sticking to his roots" as he started out with very little and even now despite having lots of fame and money he is still creating similar content

Ariana Grande- Thank u, next

- the entire video is an intertextual reference to mean girls

- elements of postmodernism: Kris Jenner playing the mum filming the Christmas show dance is ironic as she is usually the one being filmed
